Charitable Work

The Anglo-Brazilian Society has been registered with the Charity Commission (212861) since 26 August 1963, and currently supports a number of charities in Brazil.

Two recent projects supported by the Anglo-Brazilian Society use a community-based, holistic approach to bring about change and are working to close the gaps in the provision of health and education.

Dispensário Santana, located in Feira de Santana in the State of Bahia, was established in 1979 to look after children and expectant mothers in need for basic medical care. This centre runs a nursery school for over 400 children, offers vocational training for over 100 teenagers, and a medical and dental clinic staffed by volunteer doctors and dentists.

Centro Social da ACF na  Torres, located in Recife in the State of Pernambuco, was founded by the British community in Recife and is now run by the YWCA. The creche provides education, basic hygiene and nourishment for the poor children while their mothers are at work.
