Cristina Cortes to chair ABS

At the Anglo-Brazilian Society’s AGM on Monday 15 May 2023 a new board of Trustees was elected or re-elected for 2023-24 with Cristina Cortes (photo), who will be known to many for her time as CEO of Canning House, being unanimously elected by the board on 22 May to serve as the new chair of the ABS. Christopher Pickard having decided to stand down after completing his four-year term as chair. 

The new board of the ABS for 2023-24 is Luciana Berry, Cristina Cortes (Chair), Graça Fish (Vice Chair), Sir Peter Heap KCMG, James O’Keefe, Charles Pelham, Christopher Pickard, Marcio da Silva and Peter Van Veen (Hon Treasurer). Other board members are expected to be appointed in the coming months.

The ABS will shortly be announcing a series of events for 2023 including a re-launch summer reception for members in July, and a gala event later in the year to mark the 80th anniversary of the ABS. 

Clélia Iruzun returns to London and the Cadogan Hall

2023 – An Anniversary Year for the Anglo-Brazilian Society

2023 marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Anglo-Brazilian Society in London in 1943. 

2023 also marks the 60th anniversary since the Anglo-Brazilian Society registered with the UK Charity Commission (212861) on 26 August 1963.
